Advanced Nuclear Systems

Job description

SCK•CEN is developing the multi-purpose irradiation facility MYRRHA, a flexible fast spectrum research infrastructure conceived as an Accelerator Driven System (ADS). It consists of a 600 MeV proton linear accelerator (linac) which drives a lead-bismuth cooled sub-critical reactor

According to the MYRRHA phased implementation plan, a first facility called MINERVA will be constructed at SCK•CEN in Mol. MINERVA includes the design, construction, commissioning, operation of a unique infrastructure composed of a 100 MeV proton linac coupled to an ISOL target station for fundamental research and for the production of medical radioisotopes as well as to a target station for fusion material research.

We are seeking for an experienced specialist to take in charge the overall technical coherence and integration of the MINERVA installation.

As MINERVA Technical Manager, you will have, among others, the following responsibilities:

  • act as the deputy of the Chief Operational Officer (COO) of the MYRRHA-programme

  • ensure that the high-level objectives of MINERVA are translated into the design requirements of the 100 MeV accelerator, the PTF, and the buildings and auxiliary systems;

  • responsible of the overall technical coordination of the project, lead and ensure the technical compliance with the functional/technical specifications and safety requirements within a defined planning and budget;

  • verify compliance with the scope of work in terms of interdependencies and interfaces;

  • ensure that the MINERVA installation is fit for purpose and fit for use, in line with the high-level objectives and requirements;

  • lead the integration team consisting of the 3D data model responsible, the Design Managers and the systems engineers of Accelerator Design & Tests, Balance of Plant, and Proton Target Research;

  • organise and lead review meetings;

  • identify and closely monitor the relevant technical challenges, report design changes, and propose mitigation measures where applicable;

  • act as technical spokesperson of the Design Team in all the phases of the design;

  • closely work with the MINERVA Safety Officer and the MINERVA Licensing Manager;
